There are places that exist only in your imagination. Places that sometimes appear, like evanescent mirages, in the afterglow of a dream. You cannot be sure if you are recalling a particular place or if it’s an amalgam of places you’ve been to or imagined. But sometimes there they are, in front of you and, if you’re fortunate to have a camera with you, you take the shot.
Sometimes you don’t have a camera, and you’ve missed the chance. Yet the image stays with you and it begins to take on a life of its own in your mind, moulding itself to conform with your own sense of place and time. That’s when you become the hunter, seeking out the memory of the dream, the vision in your head that will define that ineffable sense of place.
While some of the images in this section are the result of a fortuitous encounter, others are the product of repeated visits. At times, that first meeting isn’t enough, you are required to return, to spend time there, to get to know the place before it will begin to reveal its secrets.
